Joining the Choir
Membership Secretary Keith Johnson
Thank you for your interest in joining the choir. Please feel free to turn up at any of our rehearsals which are held at 7.30pm on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Angel Centre in Worcester City Centre, map here. Alternatively telephone our membership secretary Keith Johnson on 01684 591321 or email your details here.
We hope you will enjoy singing with us. We are a well established choir of around sixty members divided into four sections, first and second tenors, baritones and bases. You don't need to attend every rehearsal but you should try to come at least once a week. We rehearse in an effort to produce singing of the highest standard at our concerts of which there are around twelve to fifteen per year, see current list here. In addition there can be one or two trips away when we sometimes join other choirs for concert performances and social gatherings.
Our librarian will issue you with a binder containing sheet music for our current repertoire. You will need to bring this to each rehearsal but as is traditional in male voice choirs, our concert performances are given without the printed scores. Just occasionally though, at the discretion of the conductor, scores are allowed.
Waiting to rehearse in MalmesburyIf you decide that Worcester Male Voice Choir is for you, your singing range will be assessed in a short private session with the conductor who will place you in the most appropriate section for your range. You will then be given a letter, telling you about subscription details and uniform.
Most of our concerts are given in aid of various charities so members usually bare the cost of transport themselves but if there is a problem with transport there is nearly always another member of the choir who can offer a lift. We perform loacally, nationally and on occasions internationally. Where transport is hired, choir funds can be used to subsidise the cost, with members paying the balance. If there is space available, partners, families and friends may take advantage of the discounted prices available. Families and friends are also invited to join us in the traditional 'afterglow', held in a nearby pub after each concert.
Waiting to go on stage in TruroThe choir receives some financial support from external organisations but there is still a need to raise funds so social and fund raising events are held throughout the year. A continuous fund raiser is our popular 100 club.
We hope that membership of the choir will give you many enjoyable hours of singing and that you will gain pleasure and enjoyment from the companionship of your fellow choristers.
