Worcester Male Voice Choir

Worcester Male Voice Choir was formed in 1987 from choristers who had been singing with Worcester Police Choir. During our twenty two years the choir has gradually grown in size and standards have improved with the talent and commitment of the late Barry Jones and our present musical director Nicolas Wright

We have been invited to sing in places far and near, performing in France, Germany, Ireland, Wales and England. Last year we sang with the English Association of Male Voice Choirs at Lichfield Cathedral and taken part in the International Male Choral Festival in Cornwall performing six concerts in different venues in five days with other English and international choirs. In June we sang with the English Association of Male Voice Choirs in Lichfield Cathedral and in October joined other local choirs to sing in Worcester Cathedral to help celebrate the birthday of St Richard's Hospice in a concert introduced by Patricia Routledge. Our Annual Concert was compared by Henry Sandon, former musical director of Worcester Police Choir. This year, visits are planned to North Wales in May and Yorkshire in August.

Most of our concerts raise funds for local and national charities and we have helped to raise well over £95,000 since 1997. We always welcome new choir members and additions to our non singing supporters, "Friends Of Worcester Male Voice Choir" who are a much appreciated part of our team. Musical Director Nicola Wright

Nicolas Wright - Musical Director

Nic was formerly our accompanist and assistant conductor and took on the post of musical director for the choir from the late Barry Jones at the end of 2006. His astonishingly accurate ear is one of the huge benefits he brings to the choir. If any of the sections is not singing the written line, Nic notices and puts it right.  His dry wit keeps everyone on their toes and his musical experience is a huge asset to the choir.

Sheila Leatherland - Accompanist

As a former music teacher, Sheila has been involved with the music scene for most of her life.  She has been playing for choirs, mixed, male voice and school, for over 30 years and when she moved to Worcester with her husband Barry (now choir secretary and member of our bass section) we were quick to make use of her services. Her cheery smile lights up the darkest practice night and her warming up sessions bring us very much to life at the beginning of the evening.
