Worcester Wheels

Worcester Wheels is a not for profit community transport operator that provides transport for elderly, disabled, vulnerable and isolated residents of the city and the surrounding areas. We have a fleet of fully wheelchair accessible minibuses and MPV’s, as well as volunteers who use their own cars to provide door to door trips, as well as fully trained passenger assistants should our clients require assistance. As we are a charity and use volunteer drivers and passenger assistants our fares are very affordable and offer excellent value for money. Our vehicles are also available for group hire – for excursions for example – with or without a driver / passenger assistant.

We also require volunteer drivers for cars and minibuses – car drivers are reimbursed at 45p per mile and there is no commitment necessary…you simply drive for us as and when you are available to do so.

Treasurer Required
Worcester Wheels need someone with a sound financial background to join our Board of Trustees as Treasurer. You would be instrumental in implementing our ambitious plan to expand our service and to achieve a secure financial future.

The Role
Working with the Business Development Manager and Trustees, this responsible position is for a Board Member who will monitor and review the organisations financial practice and procedures. Significant changes have been put in place over the last twelve months to support the move from a reliance on grant funding to a position in which we are fully self-funding. Financial oversight is key during this process.

Required skills – Accountancy Financial Management

Person description
A Team player: to work with a small but dedicated team of staff and trustees. Experience of financial management and oversight is essential. An accountant with charity background is ‘desirable’ for this role. We expect all trustees to abide by the Nolan principles for Public Life, and the Code of Conduct for Trustees devised by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations.

What impact the opportunity will have?
This role will provide the financial oversight and expertise to help us make the best use of our assets, support our removal to new premises and the expansion of our transport service. Financial stability will enable us to improve the scope of the service we can offer to local people who are socially isolated and who have difficulty in accessing transport.

Time commitment
Mostly outside office hours
Every two months, up to two hours. Sub-Committee on Finance & HR matters. Every month for 1-2 hours.
